- For some clients, “making sense” means helping them rationalize their existing investment portfolios into something more manageable and meaningful. Too often clients engage in “dysfunctional diversification”—spreading their wealth across a variety of portfolios with different investment advisors, in the belief that all diversification is good. Often, however, the benefits from this diversification can be limited because different advisors may invest in the same stocks/securities or have similar concentrations in particular markets. Sometimes “less is more” when it comes to achieving effective diversification.
